nRad R2R Research and Development Systems

nRad R2R System - HQ 2 copyDeveloping a process and scaling it to Roll-to-Roll (R2R) production can be a very challenging task.    Even performing R&D on R2R can be expensive, since continuous R2R coating can consume a significant amount of material.  Many of these materials, both substrates and coating solutions, can be costly, particularly those used in the organic and printed electronics industries.

The nRad R2R development system facilitates initial R&D on a compact platform to help bridge the gaps between laboratory research, pilot production, and ultimately full production processes. It allows an operator to develop production coating processes on a small, economical, and highly flexible platform, capable of depositing a broad range of materials with precise control of film uniformity and coating area placement.

System Benefits:

  • nTact’s proprietary Selective Coating method provides continuous patch coating capability with precise control of starting and stopping points.
  • Steady state coating can be achieved within 10mm of the initial coating leading edge, minimizing material and substrate and waste.
  • Multiple coating layers can be overlaid using sensors to reference existing layers or fiducial marks.
  • Step and repeat operation allows for separation, control, and optimization of process steps prior to transitioning to the full R2R production process.
  • Process steps do not have to be simultaneous or at a fixed velocity.  This allows for a wide range of coating speeds and cure times, making the application of varied materials and processes much simpler.
  • Significantly reduced oven size allows for a relatively small system footprint.  Oven size is independent of cure time making extended curing possible.  Additional process modules can be added as needed over time.
  • Compatible with inert gas / glove box operation for the processing of various organic materials.
  • nTact’s nRad coating module also allows for process development on individual, discrete (sheet) substrates for initial process development.
  • Process and Materials can be optimized in R&D and carried through the various development stages reducing technical and financial risk in technology transfers
